Participants Feedback on the Project Process

    Alexandros Memtsas

    Greece

In this project, I gained many interesting learnings about migration and the immigrant phenomenon, and the integration of immigrants into society and school. Thanks to the project, I realized that we are all equal, that we should not take racial differences into account, and how important it is to live in harmony with immigrants. The role of partners in Turkey is very important in helping me understand this.

As a classroom teacher, it was a great experience where I learned great information about immigration, immigrant children, children’s picture books and interactive reading that I can apply in my classroom throughout my life. During the project, I also had the opportunity to meet with participants from different cultures and talk about immigrant children. Thanks to this project, I made a promise to myself that I would be more sensitive towards immigrant children when I came together with them.

This project I participated in met all my expectations regarding migration and the integration of immigrant children into society, which was the reason for my participation. Especially thanks to qualified partners in Turkey, I experienced children’s picture books and interesting games related to these books. I also understood what it felt like to be a refugee and how to approach immigrant children. Now I will help them have a better future. I wish my other friends could join this project too!

The project provided me with the opportunity to interact with people from different cultures and develop empathy towards immigrant children. There were many fun and educational activities about children’s picture books within the project. I think these activities are very important for the project to achieve its goal. Thanks to the project, I made many friends from Spain and Greece, and we still share our thoughts with them about immigrant children and children’s picture books. I think the world needed projects like this right now.

Thanks to the project, I learned the perspectives of immigrant children, what they feel, and how/why I can help them. I think that Turkey, which is the project manager, has put a lot of effort into preparing children’s picture books and interactive reading subjects and has created a good organization. My favorite part of the project was that there were various activities every day. These events were very effective in gaining intercultural sensitivity, which was the aim of the project.

This project helped me to cultivate my knowledge as far as concerning the intercultural sensitivity and also to connect with people from different cultural backgrounds. Personally, through this project I realized that showing empathy about other people and the situation they are going through is the “key” to bond truly with them.I was very pleased with the communication and cooperation between people on the project. I can definitely say that my migration and intercultural sensitivity has improved thanks to this project.

Thanks to the project, I met and communicated with people from different cultures and saw many illustrated children’s books about migration and immigrant children. I realized that I could use children’s picture books for intercultural sensitivity. Additionally, thanks to the project, I began to empathize with immigrant children and look at the phenomenon of migration from a broader perspective. The workshops in Turkey were perfectly organized, taking into account the materials, content and other conditions. I would like to thank the coordinator country very much.

In this project I participated in, I learned what children’s picture books about migration are, how to use these books, and how to read interactively. I realized that using these books is a great help in explaining immigration and intercultural sensitivity to children. I really enjoyed the icebreaker activities we did before reading the books. I also do these activities and games with my own students at my school.

It was a new experience for me and the project overcome my expectations. It was a great experience for me to learn how books can be a very useful tool in social inclusion for immigrants and refugees. All responsible people within the project tried to do their job in the best way possible. It was a great experience for me to benefit from their deep knowledge and meet new people. The best part of the project was talking about an issue that affects the whole world and producing solutions. I think that thanks to the project, my intercultural sensitivity and my belief that all people are equal and should receive the same treatment, regardless of religion, language or race, have increased.

In this project, I learned what children’s picture books are and how to use these books to increase intercultural sensitivity in my classes. As a classroom teacher with immigrant students in my classroom, this project helped me a lot in developing intercultural sensitivity, acting democratically, and seeing life from immigrants’ perspectives. As I came together with people from different cultures in the project, I had the opportunity to better understand how the students in my own class felt.

This project I participated in created many new experiences for me. I can also say that the entire project process was quite productive. As a result of the training we received in the project, I learned that everyone is equal no matter what country they come from. I can also say that my awareness of intercultural sensitivity, illustrated children’s books and interactive reading has improved. I would also like to add that the coordinator country has made good preparations for the project and they are interested in us.

The activities in the workshops held in the project quite met my expectations. I learned that despite we are all different in fact we are equals and we have to be kind to every human being because we could be in their position and in need of some help. They were very active, cheerful and especially they were willing to help as in everything. I would tell that it was an experience that I learned a lot of things, met new people that “won my heart” and if I had the chance I would do it again without changing something.

It was a very different experience to learn the views of three different countries on this issue. The fact that the project was carried out in different countries with different participants and that we were influenced by each other in a good way was above my expectations. I knew that we had a lot of experience as a country in terms of migration, but after the one-on-one experience with different countries, I realized how important and valuable our experiences and our reactions to them are. I felt that intercultural sensitivity can be a tangible emotion, but it is actually a human skill.

This project helped me as a teacher to improve myself in terms of education. I learned playful, attractive, innovative and original ways of making children’s literature. In the project, I learned how to use illustrated children’s books in the classroom and how to approach these books from a different perspective. I also realized the importance of intercultural sensitivity as a priority issue in a classroom. I can say that the partners in Turkey are a very professional team and they put all the effort necessary for the workshops.
